Region Youth Council Nominations Sought
The Capital
Region Workforce Investment Board is soliciting nominations
for appointments to the newly created: Capital Region
Youth Council.
The Capital Region Youth Council will
serve the City of Richmond and the Counties
of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan,
and shall serve as a sub-committee of the Capital Region
Workforce Investment Board.
The Capital Region Youth Council will be comprised
of:
1.
Members of the Regional Workforce Investment Board
with special interest or experience in youth policy
2.
Representatives of youth service agencies, including
juvenile justice and local law enforcement agencies
3.
Representatives of local public housing authorities
4.
Parents of eligible youth seeking assistance under
the Act
5.
Individuals, including former participants, and representatives
of organizations, that have experience relating to youth
activities
6.
Representatives of Job Corps, as appropriate
7.
Other individuals as the Regional Workforce Investment
Board and the Consortium Board determine to be appropriate.
Members of the Regional Youth Council
who are not members of the Regional Workforce Investment
Board shall be voting members of the Regional Youth Council
and non-voting members of the Regional Workforce Investment
Board.
The Youth Council is responsible for
coordination and oversight of the youth development system
in the Capital Region with emphasis on the Workforce Investment
Act Youth Program.
WIA legislation and regulations require that the Youth
Council:

Ensure fiscal
and programmatic accountability of the youth system
·
Develop
the portions of the regional WIA plan that relates to eligible
youth
·
Recommend
youth service providers to the local WIB
·
Conduct
oversight of youth providers
·
Assist the
local WIB in developing policy for youth employment and
training
·
Use a youth
development approach to designing and delivering the system
·
Establish
linkages with other youth serving organizations in the area
·
Establish
connections between the youth system and the local one-stop
system

self nomination. Nominations must be received by August
