Youth Council

VISION
The Capital Region Youth Council is committed to fostering a community atmosphere that values youth as resources. We want to participate in providing innovative services and activities designed to increase self discovery and instill positive core values and decision-making skills that will keep youth safe and allow them to lead healthy and productive lives. The Council develops the youth portion of the strategic plan for the Capital Workforce Investment Area—the Counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan and the City of Richmond. The Council advises the Capital Region Workforce Investment Board (CRWIB) about youth concerns, makes recommendations concerning strategies, programs, and youth service providers, and is responsible for monitoring the use of youth funds under the federal Workforce Investment Act.

FOCUS AREAS

  • Ensuring that all youth become economically self-sufficient and possess the math, literacy, and numeracy skills necessary to be life long learners and increase their capabilities.
  • Integrating and streamlining access to workforce development services for all youth.
  • Converging community resources to minimize and eliminate barriers to youth workforce participation.
  • Making work-based learning opportunities available for all youth year round; including after school, during school breaks, and during summer.
  • Providing all youth the opportunity to remediate the skills needed to be viable workforce candidates.
  • Establishing strong partnerships to leverage and expand resources.
